Natural Stone

Limestone

During the past 20+ years, Paris Ceramics has established superb relationships with some of the world’s most special, niche quarries. These quarries are typically small, and privately owned, with limited production providing extremely hard to find material such as our Burgundy Clair light, from the East of France. This particular quarry produces consistent, light material with limited fossiling. Or coming from Romania, our Castille limestone shows a beautiful array of character and blends tones of grey and beige and silver.

Since we import reclaimed limestone from the South of France and its 200+ years old patina, one can only imagine what the newly cut stone would look like in your home in years to come. The essence of limestone is the life it takes on as it ages and matures over the years providing warmth and character to your residence forever.

Coveted for its natural beauty and consistent tone, it is also one of life’s most enduring materials. Limestone comes in many colors from all over the world and with the special finishes we can create either by hand or machine in our factory, you can achieve the exact look you want.

Natural Stone

Marble

Known for its unique veining and lasting durability, there is no other material quite like marble.

Starting with its graceful aging attributes, it allows the slow but magnificent evolution of this stone to result in more beauty over time such as found in the churches in France, to the Vatican in Rome. Hundreds of years later, the basis of the surfaces in these monuments still stands strong. Marble continues to be selected and displayed as a lifelong material by the world’s most discerning architects.

Marble promotes the unique offering of shapes, and patterns that make the space truly interesting. Falling cube, Palais, and Harlequin patterns are just a few we offer and when installed in long, narrow halls, or entry foyers, the result is a real “wow” effect to its visitors.

Paris Ceramics imports a large variety of marble colors. From the greys of Spain to the whites of Turkey to the magnificent Blue of the Alps, there is no limit to the creativity. Vivid Red Rose Asiago or Emerald Green allows the designers to incorporate colors into their vision which is just not possible with Limestone.

Since old marble is becoming highly protected material in the European reclamation market and extremely difficult to obtain, we have created the techniques and the artisinal skill to emulate the old world finish. Such finishes as hand antiqued, distressed, or dished have all been perfected by our experienced and capable stone crafters in Farmville, VA.

And finally, marble is suitable for interior and exterior, in any climate, which makes it truly a one of a kind.

Antique Natural Stone

We at Paris Ceramics believe in the ethical process of reclaiming European materials and reselling those in the United States. The ethos behind this mindset guides us in selecting not only newly quarried materials, but truly going thru the antique yards in the South of France and Spain and purchasing highly patina'd materials. Bringing those elegant materials into the American homes creates such magnificent finishes in both contemporary and traditional settings.

Paris Ceramics' most significant unique feature in the marketplace is that we not only have full time employees in these countries, but we import these materials in their raw state. This gives us the ability to cut and finish the material to your personal specifications. Furthermore, if additional materials are required at a later stage, it is no problem for Paris Ceramics to produce.

For example, we can take these one of a kind antique materials and make mosaics out of them. These are truly one of a kind, hand crafted works.

We purchase the reclaimed material in the French regions of Montpellier, Provence, Burgundy and Normandy. Each region, due to its natural geological nature, produces significantly different colors and finishes, giving a look second to none, as you can see in the pictures below. From Spain, we import the highly desirable and limited availability of the antique checkerboard pattern. This 200+ year old marble – grey & white – create what other graceful entry halls looked like in the previous decades.

From Jerusalem, a city which is covered by its natural stone in every building, we continue to import this ancient timeless material. The Jerusalem stone comes in color variations which are truly unique.

Terracotta

Antique Reclaimed Terracotta

Terracotta in Italian means “baked earth”. This ancient handmade process of mixing the earth with water and then taking it through a double baking process, first with the natural sunlight and secondly in a wood burning kiln, gives this amazingly simplistic material great colors and finishes. Those colors actually vary from region to region based on soil. Bordeaux is known for its yellow coloration and the Southwest of France for its pink-ish colors.

This handmade material had many applications in the 17th and 18th century as a building supply. Parefueille were used for roof tiles while bricks were used for structural building such as walls. The terracotta tiles can be used indoors and outdoors in warm climates. Antique terracotta in France, is qualified as material that is over 100 years old.

Paris Ceramics keeps an inventory of some of the most magnificent terracotta available in Europe. We offer an array of sizes of squares, from 6” x 6” all the way to 14” x 14”. We maintain an inventory of hexagons 6” x 6” and Parefueille in 8” x 14”. All this product is available in a variety of colors. We carry bricks in 2 significant colors: the traditional red and pink and the light colors of white and beige. Those variety of colors can be cut into an inch thickness and applied into fireplaces and flooring creating the effect without the weight.

Paris Ceramics provides an array of applications for a more creative pallet of antique terracotta. For example, we can create an array of shapes such as arabesque, crescents, and scallops by cutting these materials in our factory. We also cut the edges of the antique Parefueille to create our renowned “skinny strips” as seen in pictures on our website.

This ancient material, though very old, can be juxtaposed into a very modern, contemporary setting as well, to give an amazing depth of design.

Design panels, which can be found in palaces, castles, prestigious homes, as well as commercial buildings, reflect contemporary design trends while respecting the timeless craftsmanship of the past. They represent the luxury and grandeur of the Palace of Versailles. Developed to replace marble floors in 16th-century France, they were expensive to install and maintain. The textural interest of design panels adds depth and creates a strong design statement. Their elegance and geometrical sobriety match all kinds of interiors. The Design Panels are statement making and are available in all colors in the collection.

The continuous running patterns, such as a braid or the falling cube are perfect for use in difficult shaped rooms, as they are non-directional. They can be used as wall coverings as well, creating a truly dramatic effect for a strong design statement.

Our wood partners pride themselves on craftsmanship. There is a commitment to making unique products at the highest level that are designed and crafted with vision and passion. Created according to the latest design trends in mind, they are perfected by oils, varnishes and stains specially developed for today's market.

Antique Reclaimed

Taken out of some of Europe's most beautiful old homes, providing true sustainability and a reclaiming material approach, Paris Ceramics is a leading importer of antique, reclaimed oak. Our representative in France and southern Europe sources this material while they are hunting for antique stone. They find some of this beautiful, cast off wood at the same time. After shipping it to the US, it is hand cut, de-nailed, brushed, and finished in North Carolina's wood shops. This hand work to what started out as very battered wood, produces a one-of-a-kind- floor for today's contemporary homes as well as traditional spaces. This wood is available in 3 ½", 5", and 9" widths and is often cut into chevron and herringbone finishes. This material truly provides a magnificent statement for both large and small spaces. Although never in a perfect shape, this patina'd look will create depth in color and aging that is unrivaled.
